01. The Six Steps

The production of any spirit requires a series of conscientious decisions: in this section we will cover the tequila production process and highlight some instances where we have deliberately chosen a time-consuming method that preserves tradition over a more modern method that may be more efficient.

To make tequila or mezcal, a producer must follow these steps:

PREPARING THE AGAVE

ENERGY CONVERSION

MILLING ROASTED AGAVE

FERMENTATION

DISTILLATION

BLENDINGBOTTLING

This video is part of,“From Field to Glass,” a collaborative series from Vinepair and Patrón highlighting the importance of naturally perfect and authentic tequila.

In this episode, Adam and Joanna from Vinepair are joined by chief Hacienda PATRÓN hospitality host Daphne Renee Castro Moreno. Once the harvested agave arrives at the Hacienda, it’s slow- cooked in brick ovens, shredded, and crushed using the traditional tahona process. From there, they walk through PATRÓN tequila’s special fermentation and distillation methods that make naturally perfect and authentic tequila.
