Patrón x Vinepair Video Series: From Field to Glass

Follow the journey of PATRÓN Tequila from agave field to glass, and every crucial step in between.

In From Field to Glass with PATRÓN, Vinepair co-founder and CEO Adam Teeter and editor in chief Joanna Sciarrino explore Hacienda PATRÓN to get an inside look at how the premium tequilas are made from harvesting and cooking agave, to distilling, aging, and bottling the liquid.

Check out all six of the comprehensive videos below to learn more about the people, place and processes that make PATRÓN what it is. Find these and other videos, ranging from educational to entertaining, on the Academia Youtube page.

In this episode one, Adam and Joanna join agave farm owner Fernando Plascencia in the field to see how the prized Weber Blue agave is grown and harvested. They discuss the agave plant’s life cycle, why age is so important to making the best-quality tequila, and what signs to look for when it’s time to harvest. Once the jimadores harvest the agave piñas, it’s time to take them back to the Hacienda for the next step of the tequila-making process.

In episode two, Adam and Joanna are joined by chief Hacienda PATRÓN hospitality host Daphne Renee Castro Moreno. Once the harvested agave arrives at the Hacienda, it’s slow- cooked in brick ovens, shredded, and crushed using the traditional tahona process. From there, they walk through PATRÓN tequila’s special fermentation and distillation methods that make naturally perfect and authentic tequila.

In episode three, Adam and Joanna head to the barrel rooms with PATRÓN bulk coordinator Ricardo Mora to see how the PATRÓN Silver tequila is barrel-aged to become the popular Reposado, Añejo, and Extra Añejo expressions. Then Miryam Segura, PATRÓN bottling manager, shows Adam and Joanna all the stations of the bottling process and the many devoted employees who make it possible.

In episode four, Ofelia Valdespino, PATRÓN Production Process Representative, shows Adam and Joanna the Hacienda’s water treatment plant, extensive composting facilities, and beautiful gardens. They learn that the PATRÓN tequila-making process keeps the environment and sustainability in mind at every stage by reusing water for the grounds, composting soil for the agave fields, and feeding the team with fresh vegetables.

In episode five, Adam and Joanna get to know some of the dedicated people behind every bottle of PATRÓN tequila. They sit down with Master Distiller David Santos Rodríguez to talk about his 19 years with PATRÓN; Production Coordinator Luis Hernandez about the dedication of PATRÓN employees; and mother-daughter team Mary Villa, Hacienda Hospitality Administrator, and Karla Ruelas, Hacienda Hospitality Host, about the value of being a part of the PATRÓN family.

In the final episode, Adam and Joanna head to the Hacienda PATRÓN Copper Bar for a lesson in cocktail-making with Jose Luis Gutierrez Ibarra, PATRÓN Tequila Ambassador Latin America and Caribbean, and Oskar Murillo, Head Mixologist at Hacienda PATRÓN. They talk about why a Silver & Soda is the best way to enjoy the true flavors of tequila, shake up simply perfect PATRÓN cocktails, and more.
